George Carlin never fails to make me laugh. Every time I watch his shows on youtube, I always laugh, and even though I find his jokes irreverent most of the time,oh, but they are so relevant… and George definitely knows how to deliver them. I even find his dark humor amusing. Usually his shows are one hour+ long but watching and listening to him crack jokes the way he does, time just passes by unnoticed.
Why am I writing about George Carlin? Well, he makes me realize that life’s hurdles and hiccups and hitches are so common and KNOWING THAT, IS A GREAT RELIEF! So I don’t ask God “WHY ME?” every time a problem hits me. You see, hearing myself ask that question is so depressing— as if I own a whole lot of the world’s problems and no one else does.
Listening to George is a very effective way to divert my attention. Let’s say, I was irked by my brother’s abusive words and it made me mad– so mad that I wanted to “return the favor” but that would be going down to his level. Keeping my cool used to be a HUGE effort but now I know the easy (and enjoyable!) way.
Here’s a sample of George’s wicked wit:
“I like people who buck the system. Individualists. I often warn people: “Somewhere along the way, someone is going to tell you, ‘There is no “I” in team.’ What you should tell them is, ‘Maybe not. But there is an “I” in independence, individuality and integrity.'” Avoid teams at all cost. Keep your circle small. Never join a group that has a name. If they say, “We’re the So-and-Sos,” take a walk. And if, somehow, you must join, if it’s unavoidable, such as a union or a trade association, go ahead and join. But don’t participate; it will be your death. And if they tell you you’re not a team player, congratulate them on being observant.”
Here’s another one:
“I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, ‘Where’s the self-help section?’ She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.”

Isn’t it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do “practice”?”
